Sustainability Science Fair

26/11/2019

UMEARTH hosted a Sustainability Science Fair in the Fireside Lounge, and it was a blast! We did vermicomposting, which is composting with worms in a bucket, which can be done inside. We have a whole page with info on composting.

For the UMEARTH table, we had Tanner Cheliak, Laura Los, Christina Tran, and Brittany Guarino to build it, set it up, and demonstrate.

We had several clubs and groups around U of M join us as well, who helped make it a fantastic and memorable event.

Clubs/groups that were involved:
  • Sustainable Development Goals
  • Society of Earth Science and Environmental Students (SESES)
  • UM Wetlanders
  • Let's Talk Science
  • Campus Food Strategy Group
  • Environment and Geography Students' Association (EGSA)
  • Engineers Without Borders
  • Sip.Smart - visit their SHOP
  • University of Manitoba Agricultural Robotics Club (UM-agBOT)
  • Office of Sustainability

A big thanks to all of you for coming out!

Physical Plant Tour

8/11/2019

Students from UMEARTH were given a tour of the Physical Plant at U of M. They were shown how the district power, heating, and cooling systems on campus work, and they also collected footage to use for the IDEA video competition.

IDEA stands for International District Energy Association. Every year, they hold a competition where students across North America create a video about the district energy, heating, and cooling systems on their campus. The video with the most views during a certain period wins a trip to Denver, Colorado.

UMEARTH is working hard to secure a victory for U of M.

Experimental Lakes Tour

27/10/2019

Members of UMEARTH and the Student Energy directorship went to tour the Experimental Lakes facilities in Ontario in preparation for a future project.
